Selling internationally

Selling to businesses abroad, within each country's rules

Emails are written in the recipient's language, held back or released according to the compliance declaration you make for that country, and sent with the right sender details for each brand. The rules vary a lot: the UK lets you email limited companies without prior consent, while Germany and Austria generally require consent even from businesses.

Short answer: Where B2B email is allowed, such as to companies in the UK, Repmight writes a personal first email in the recipient's language. In countries that require prior consent, such as Germany and Austria, nothing is sent without your declaration.

Challenges

  • Every country has its own cold email rules
  • Writing well in a language that isn't your own is hard

With Repmight

  • Compliance checks for each country (GDPR, UK PECR, the sole trader rule); no declaration, no sending
  • Emails written in the recipient's language
  • Sender details and unsubscribe wording suited to each country

In Germany and Austria, advertising emails generally need prior express consent, including when the recipient is a business. Don't send there without it. This is general information, not legal advice.

FAQ

Can I cold email businesses in the UK?

Under PECR, you don't need prior consent to send marketing emails to corporate subscribers such as limited companies, as long as you say who you are and give an easy way to opt out. Sole traders and some partnerships count as individuals and need consent.

Can I cold email businesses in Germany?

German unfair competition law (UWG §7) generally requires prior express consent for advertising emails, including to businesses. Without consent, use other routes such as events, referrals or enquiries that come to you.
